Training Your Pet DogPets training is not an easy task, which is why many pet owners prefer to take their friends to special schools, where specialists guarantee their pet’s good behavior and obedience after “graduating.”

But if you do not trust your beloved dog to others, you can do the training yourself.

Remember, the best time to train your dog is the period when it is 3-10 months old. After that dogs become harder to convince and do not catch on to commands. Here’s what to do:

1. The first step as soon as you get your puppy is making it get used to its name. While stroking your dog, or playing with it try to pronounce its name as often as you can. Its better to chose a nickname which is catchy. Very soon the puppy will learn to react on that sound.

2. Don’t forget to praise your dog and pay more attention to it whenever it reacts or does something right. Dogs realize the kind tone of the voice and later on, when they hear the words of praise, they know they did something right.

3. Award your dog. The praise can be followed by a piece of dog food, something tasty.

4. The command “Don’t!” is one of the most important during pets training. Reproach your puppy by saying “Don’t” once in a strict voice. It will soon realize that something was done wrong. Note–never punish your puppy with force, because it can cause aggressive reactions in the future.

5. Teach the dog to use a newspaper as a toilet. If the puppy is anxious and is walking around the house soiling the floor, put the puppy on a newspaper and hold him there until it pees. Later you can take a newspaper which already smells like your dog outside in order to train him to go walking.

6. Come! Hold a toy or a piece of food in your hand and call the puppy until he obeys. Repeat the same several times. (Don’t forget to praise each time!)

7. Sit! Hold a toy or piece of food up high, so the dog cannot reach it. Say “Come!”  Hold the food above its head, and the puppy will automatically sit down to see it. Say the command “Sit!” as it is sitting down. Repeat several times.

8. Lay down! Command the dog to sit. Hold the food in front of him then lower it closer to the floor. Do that until the dog lies down. Repeat.

These are tips for training the essential commands for your dog. Follow them and the training of your pet will be easy and fun for both of you.
