Surviving The Loss Of Your Dog
04 Mar 2010
Grief is inevitable, it occurs in different periods of your life. You gain something and then lose it. It’s quiet natural.
But it has always been difficult to overcome the loss of someone very special to you. It can be a friend, family member or loved pet. Your dog becomes your friend, your family member and your child when he starts to live with you.
Dog loss is not easy for any pet owner. Dogs pass away but leave behind so many wonderful memories of your life. A pet’s presence takes away the feeling of loneliness. A single dog can even replace the presence of many family members.
For some people dogs are only dogs, yet for others they are true friends. After losing a dog you can feel depressed, angry and even guilty. You might make your family members feel guilty in the loss of your dog. You deny that your pet is gone and look for miracles. You promise to do everything you haven’t done for your dog, if only it will return. You become sad, hopeless and helpless. You think about your dog loss all day long.
After passing through all these stages, you finally reach acceptance and healing. This doesn’t mean that the loss of loved dog isn’t hurting you any more. You start accepting the reality. You understand that what is past is past and you can never turn back the clock. You can never forget the one you loved, but you’ll get through the pain.
For support, spend time with people who also lost their pets, they will understand you. Make a photo album with your dog’s pictures, and beside them write about the unforgettable moments you spent together. In a box store his toys and belongings. By doing all of these things you will gradually get through the loss of your dog. Soon the time will come when you start looking for another bushy friend.
