Tigers As Cat Pets: Caring Tips
31 Aug 2010
People are often keened to keep wild cat pets, like tigers. No wonder, because it is an over-the-top experience, and it’s human nature to seek out everything uncommon and extraordinary.
But the owners of such pets need to remember that non-domestic cats simply cannot be like domestic cats. The behavior of wild cats cannot be predicted.
Wild cats are independent and self-sufficient with acute instincts. These factors make them unsuitable as cat pets. But if anyway the temptation is too strong, and you want to keep a tiger as a pet, better know how to take care of it. But before you do, make sure it is legal to keep one and that the species is not endangered.
Now about caring tips which should be taken into account:
- Tigers are big cats that have big needs and the related expenses would be big as well.
- They are predators and their instincts oblige them to hunt. So you will have to create the necessary conditions for that.
- Tigers need a lot of space and it would be better if it reminded them of their natural habitat.
- You will be compelled to find a veterinarian willing to observe and treat your “pet.” Do not hope that will be too easy.
- Do not forget about natural pet foods, because your tiger every day will demand a good stock of raw meat.
- The cage of the tiger needs to be safely protected, so as to be sure that it will not escape and injure anyone nearby.
If you want to adopt cats that are meant for the wild, such as a tiger, realize that keeping one isn’t just for fun. Caring for one has its difficulties and demands which need to be considered and undertaken. Make sure you know what you’re getting yourself into.
