Special Care For Turtles

Special Care For TurtlesDo you have or want to get a new baby turtle? Don’t know what to do with him?

First of all, get a plastic aquarium, which should be very roomy and have areas for both swimming and resting.

The water in the aquarium should be filtered and changed once a week. Put rocks and a UV lamp in the aquarium. The UV lamp will keep the turtle warm and will provide them with Vitamin D. If your turtle has a Vitamin D deficiency he could have bone diseases and problems with shell growth.

Your turtle should have a proper diet in order to be healthy. You should feed your pet turtle every day. Turtles eat a variety of things like earthworms, small fish, greens and fruit. Don’t leave uneaten food in the aquarium it can cause a number of diseases.

If your children are under the age of five don’t let them hold the baby turtle as he can pass bacteria known as Salmonella to your kids. Usually small children, pregnant women and elderly people are infected.

Adults should wash their hands after holding turtles in order to avoid infection. And if you are expecting a child keeping a pet turtle at home is not recommended.

Turtles need special attention, so be cautious.
