The Sacred Cat Of Burma

The Sacred Cat Of BurmaBirman cat also known as the sacred cat of Burma belongs to one of the most splendid cat breeds. Many people mix these cats with Burmese and Siamese.

The origin of these cats remains a mystery though there are a lot of  legends about it.

One of the legends says that the cat was the favorite of Kittah priests in Burma. They kept the cats  in a temple. One day robbers attacked the temple to steal the golden statue of the goddess Tsun-Kyan-Kse. The high priest Mun-Ha who tried to save the statue was injured. As he was lying the Birman cat named Sinh came and put his paws on his chest and stared at the statue. Mun-Ha died and his soul entered the cat’s. The cat transformed, Sinh’s hair turned into golden and his eyes into sapphire blue (just like the eyes of the Goddess). And his paws turned white which was a symbol of devotion to the priest.

The Birmans were introduced to Europe in 1910. Since then they have enjoyed great popularity.

The average weight of males is 10-15 pounds and the average weight of females is 6-10 pounds. This cat has deep blue eyes, small ears, semi-long hair and white paws which people usually call the “gloves.” All Birman cats are born white and they develop their color after a week.

Birman cats are very affectionte and sociable. Being playful, they won’t refuse to play with children. So they are recommended not only for cat lovers but also for families with children and first time cat owners.

Now if you decided to bring a Birman cat home consider the right care. Birman cats are prone to weight gain and you should control your cat’s diet by choosing the right cat pet food. Birmans need to be fed with special cat food that you can buy at pet stores. And they also won’t mind being fed meat and fish.

Daily grooming is not required but it’s desirable, especially in spring when cats start molting. Groom your cat with a comb to make sure you get rid of dead fur.

Cats love being in the center of attention, and if you worship your Birman, he’ll be a very happy pet. Also take care of his teeth as many of them are prone to mouth problems. Check the claws of your cat whenever he comes home after a walk.

If you work long hours it would be a great idea to consider a companion for your pet. For instance you can bring home another cat of the same breed. Actually Birmans get along with any kind of cat.

Birmans are known to be very curious cat pets, they will follow wherever you go and try to study whatever is new for them. That’s one of the most funny things about them.
