Hamsters are indeed very flexible, but they have special needs and demands that the pet keepers should learn. Hamster care is not a difficult job at all; on the contrary, it’s a real pleasure, if you are fond of your hamster. I’m sure you are. So, let’s start.
First, make a comfortable and safe house for your hamster. Hamsters like to live in wire cages. However, the spaces between the wires should be less than half an inch. If the gaps are larger, hamsters easily escape. If your hamster house is an aquarium, take care to have good ventilation. Besides, it should be a large one for the hamster to feel free in it.
One of the most important things while choosing a hamster house is its material: it should be easily cleaned and should not smell because of dirt. That’s why plastic boxes are not recommended at all.
Now let’s learn how hamsters should be fed. All types of hamsters can be fed with fruits and vegetables: bananas, apples, grapes, strawberries, carrots, cucumber, cooked potatoes and so on, but in small quantities. However, all hamsters need a diet, depending on their breed. That’s why you should learn a lot about your hamster breed to feed it properly. Negligent feeding can cause serious digesting problems.
Hamsters are active creatures and they need constant exercise and play time. If you don’t want your pet to get bored in its house, provide it with hamster and mouse toys. They do not only need toys for playing with, but also toys to chew. In this way it will train its teeth, which are growing throughout its life.
