Its Getting Cold Outside…We’re moving into fall here in the deep South and that means the temperatures are getting much cooler. Just last month the low temperatures at night were in the 60′s but last night the temperature dropped to a shivery 36 degrees. All of this makes beautiful fall foliage but leaves my sweet Chihuahua Lulu with chattering teeth and goose bumps! I awoke this morning with the realization that we needed to enhance Lulu’s wardrobe with pet sweaters.

Shopping for pet sweaters is not as simple as it sounds. Although a small dog sweater does come in various sizes (XXS, XS, S, M, L, XL, XXL), they are not sized quite the way that humans are. Some sweaters are size by the weight of the dog and some are sized by the length of the dog; none of the sweaters I found were sized by both! And although sweaters by their very nature will be stretchy, not all fabrics are alike and do not have the same flexibility.

The first pet sweater we saw for Lulu was so cute, a little pink sweater with a darling red heart on the back. We bought it for the major cuteness factor and kept on shopping. After all, a girl needs more than just one small dog sweater! We went back and hovered over the “security dog” sweater made like a police uniform. We settled for another soft pink sweater made of something really cushiony and plush.

When we came home we found that not all sweaters are created equal. The darling sweater with the heart was just too tight and we could not get it over Lulu’s chest area. The size on the chart was XS for 6-8 pound doggies and Lulu only weighs 5 pounds but this pet sweater would NOT fit my pet! The XS sweater in the super soft pink stuff was a perfect fit! The moral to this story is to take your pet with you to try on the sweaters or expect to make a return trip for your refund.
